Jakub Drobny has picked one of the most charming ways to revisit old-school LEGO Castle: not by copying the original beat for beat, but by giving it a careful modern polish. “Blacksmith Shop” 6040 takes a 1984 set and rebuilds it as a cleaner, smoother, more display-minded scene, and that is exactly the kind of vintage revival I enjoy most. You keep the heart of the old idea, then let modern parts usage do the rest.

What makes this especially appealing is the affection behind it. You can tell this was not just an exercise in redesign. It was a pleasure project, something built as a break from exam prep, and that relaxed enthusiasm often leads to the best kinds of MOCs. The builder wanted it to look clean and refined, and the fact that the horse was singled out as a tough challenge says a lot. Horses are weirdly hard to get right in custom LEGO form, especially when you are trying to honor classic scale while still upgrading the silhouette.
That balance between nostalgia and improvement is the real trick here. Too much modernization and you lose the 1984 soul. Too little and it just becomes a remake. This sounds like it lands in the sweet spot, where the old Blacksmith Shop still feels recognizable, just sharper, sturdier, and ready for a new generation of Castle fans.
