A Wee Dram of Bricks

·

There is something wonderfully dangerous about deciding to build a real-world workplace in LEGO. You know every wall, every sign, every little bit of character too well, which means the model has to survive both nostalgia and accuracy. 2 Much Caffeine, a.k.a. Rod Gillies, pulls it off with this microscale take on the Laphroaig Distillery on Islay, and it has that rare AFOL quality where the subject feels loved before it feels engineered.

The smart move here is scale. Rod originally wanted to tackle the famous white warehouse wall with brick-built lettering, which sounds glorious right up until the rest of the distillery becomes roughly the size of a coffee table. Instead, a printed tile from Warren Elsmore lets the iconic Laphroaig branding land cleanly without bullying the whole build. That is the kind of compromise I love: not a shortcut, but a part choice that unlocks the model.

Microscale distilleries live or die on readable silhouettes, and this one gets the important stuff across: the waterfront industrial sprawl, the tidy white walls, and the sense that somewhere inside, tiny plastic angels are claiming their share. Cheers to a build that knows when to pour neat.
