Gamma-Raay’s Bumblebee – Plague Mech: Bombus has exactly the kind of title that makes my inner constraction gremlin sit up straight. Bumblebee? Plague mech? Latin-ish bug name? Yes please, pass the infected honeycomb and let’s get weird.

What makes this sing is the way it leans into Bionicle’s best superpower: turning sharp, specialized parts into something that feels alive. A good insect mech needs more than just legs and wings slapped onto a torso. It needs attitude. It needs that slightly unsettling “this could skitter across the desk when I’m not looking” energy. Bombus sounds like it belongs in a swarm of biomechanical nightmares, and Gamma-Raay clearly knows how to use the language of shells, joints, and armor plates to sell the idea.
I’m especially fond of builds like this because constraction parts can do curves and menace at the same time. The right shoulder shell becomes a thorax plate. A limb segment suddenly reads as chitin. A tiny connector choice can make the difference between “robot with bug bits” and “bug that learned how to pilot itself.” That’s the good stuff.
The Flickr description simply says “RESURGENCE,” followed by a whole lineup of insect-themed collaborators: Rhino Beetle, Weevil, Orbweaver, Grub, Katydid, and Treehopper. That makes Bombus feel like one nasty member of a much bigger outbreak. I love when builders use a shared prompt like this to explore different silhouettes within the same creepy-crawly ecosystem.
Whether you’re here for the Bionicle engineering, the bug-themed worldbuilding, or just a mech that sounds like it comes with a warning label, Bombus brings the sting.
