Crab season has pinched its way back onto Flickr, and Pohaturon’s pair of Competitor Crabs are already taking the brief way too seriously. Built for Time for Crab 2026’s Carcinisation Competition, these little crustacean contenders turn the internet’s favorite evolutionary joke into a LEGO challenge: take something from the hobby and let nature drag it sideways into crab form.

What I love here is how immediately readable the idea is. Even without needing a biology lecture, the squat body language, raised claws, and all-business stance sell the gag. Pohaturon has the kind of parts-first brain that makes small builds sing, and the Technic/crustacean energy feels right at home: compact, a little mechanical, and weirdly full of personality. The contest premise is also delightfully dangerous, because once you start asking which LEGO sets could evolve into crabs, the answer becomes: probably all of them. Nature finds a way. So do AFOLs with bins full of clips.
