Do Androids Dream of Speed Champions?

·

SergioBatista took the LEGO Speed Champions Corvette C8.R from set 76903, looked at its sleek race-ready bodywork, and apparently thought: “Nice car. What if it hunted Replicants in a neon-soaked dystopia?” The result, titled C8.R(3PL1C4N7), is a glorious cyberpunk glow-up that turns a track machine into a Blade Runner-style Spinner with a wonderfully unhinged parts palette.

What makes this sing for me is how aggressively Sergio breaks the Speed Champions language without losing the Corvette underneath. You can still feel the low, planted proportions of the C8.R, but now they’re buried under a swarm of mechanical greebles, intakes, thrusters, and fins. The Bionicle and Exo-Force pieces are doing heavy lifting here, especially those oddly specific shapes that usually scream “robot shin armor” or “anime mecha shoulder.” In this context, they suddenly become believable aerospace tech. That is the good stuff.

The best sci-fi conversions walk a fine line between “recognizable source vehicle” and “completely different beast,” and this one parks right in the sweet spot — or hovers there, I suppose. The flying-car silhouette gets a boost from the added pods and side structures, while the dark cyberpunk color mood keeps everything feeling grimy and futuristic rather than toyetic. And yes, functional lights are absolutely the cherry on this neon sundae. A Spinner without moody illumination is just a taxi having a weird day.

I’m also a sucker for the name. C8.R(3PL1C4N7) is delightfully nerdy, mashing up Corvette race branding with Replicant leetspeak in a way that feels like it should be spray-painted on a rain-slicked alley wall. Sergio’s builder profile mentions trains, monuments, dark, and horror, but I’d say cyberpunk car surgery deserves a permanent slot on that list too.
