Frogue One: A Grung With Sticky Fingers

·

Drthresh’s Qirmid the Frogue hops straight out of the sort of Dungeons & Dragons session where the rogue absolutely insists they can pickpocket the cursed statue. This little Grung scoundrel has everything you want in a fantasy thief: a hunched, springy silhouette, sly little hands, and the unmistakable energy of someone who has definitely stolen the shiny thing and is now pretending not to know where it went.

The Bionicle DNA here is doing a ton of heavy lifting in the best way. Drthresh leans into those organic CCBS and constraction shapes to capture amphibian anatomy without smoothing away the toy-like charm. The limbs feel elastic and ready to pounce, while the wide head and squat body sell the frog-ness instantly. It’s a great reminder that Bionicle parts are not just for armored titans and biomechanical nightmares — though, to be fair, I love those too.

What really makes this sing is the character work. The pose has that wonderful “caught mid-crime” tension, and the fantasy accessories push the whole thing from cool creature build into proper tabletop troublemaker. The Biocup theme, “Sleight of Hand,” is a perfect fit, especially with the description hinting that the stolen prize may not be as unattended as Qirmid thinks. Nothing says rogue like successfully stealing the loot and immediately triggering the boss encounter.

I’m also delighted this doubles as a Frogust build, because apparently August needed more tiny amphibious criminals. Between the expressive shaping, the playful D&D concept, and the confident use of constraction parts, Qirmid is the kind of MOC that makes me want to roll initiative and also check my pockets.
