Glitz, Glamour, and Grayscale

Roll out the brick-built red carpet, because Kooky Bricks has gone full old-Hollywood newsreel with Puttin’ on the Glitz. This feels like a still frame from a 1920s gala that someone somehow projected through a LEGO filter: tuxedo tails, high hat, sequins, fringe, and just enough theatrical swagger to make you hear the ragtime piano before you even read the description.

The big flex here is the grayscale palette. Building in black, white, and shades of gray sounds simple until you realize how much LEGO detail usually depends on color contrast. Here, the lack of color becomes the point. The shapes have to do the talking: the sweep of the dress, the crisp formalwear, the stagey framing, and the little flashes of red that break the illusion like a wink from the projection booth.

I also love that this is Kooky Bricks’ first swing at forced perspective, because it is a perfect subject for it. A gala is all about spectacle, and the shifting scale lets the scene feel bigger than the footprint. The microscale Brick Bank and Jazz Club tucked into the corners are exactly the kind of Easter eggs that reward a second look. They are not just cute references; they sell the idea that this is a whole fancy LEGO world gathered for one ridiculous, glorious night.

It is stylish, funny, and deeply AFOL in the best way: a fashion build that still makes room for architecture jokes and technique experiments. The bee’s knees, but make it ABS.
