Going for Gold in Schaumburg

·

Andy Ziegler’s Winter Olympics display at Brickworld Chicago is the kind of convention build that rewards both the big sweep and the nose-to-the-glass stare. First you get the instant hit of color from all those national flags, lined up like a tiny brick-built opening ceremony. Then your eyes start skating off toward the sports, the little scenes, and the sheer number of ways winter action can be suggested with plastic rectangles.

The flags alone are a neat flex, because repetition in LEGO can get boring fast unless the colors, spacing, and rhythm are doing real work. Here, they help sell the scale of the whole thing. It feels less like one isolated model and more like a full event, packed with that good AFOL convention energy where every corner has something waiting to be found.

Olympic builds can easily turn into a checklist, but this one has the charm of a display someone clearly wanted people to linger over. Gold medal for crowd appeal? I’d say it’s on the podium.
