Hasta la vista, boring busts

Bau Build(Hongjun Youn) takes on one of cinema’s most recognizable metal nightmares with LEGO Terminator T-800 Bust Main 1, and that is a seriously fun sculpting challenge. The T-800 endoskeleton is all about hard surfaces, hollow menace, and that skull-like face that somehow looks both mechanical and alive enough to be deeply uncomfortable. In LEGO, that means the build has to walk a tricky line: too smooth and it loses the machine texture, too busy and the face stops reading cleanly.

That is why busts like this are such a good test of parts usage. A character head is unforgiving. The eyes, cheek structure, jaw, brow, and overall silhouette all have to land quickly, especially with a subject as iconic as the Terminator. You are not just building “a robot skull.” You are building the robot skull, the one that instantly makes your brain hear clanking footsteps and ominous synth music.

I also like the choice to focus on a bust rather than a full figure. It gives the builder room to concentrate all the visual weight into the face and upper form, which is where the T-800’s personality lives anyway. The tags are simple, but they say plenty: Terminator, skull, toy, MOC. That combination gets right to the point.

Hongjun Youn describes this Flickr page as a LEGO MOC portfolio, and a recognizable pop-culture bust like this is a strong portfolio piece because it shows both sculptural control and fan appeal. The best LEGO character builds do not just copy a reference. They translate it into the language of bricks while keeping the expression intact. This sounds like exactly that kind of metallic grin.
