evancelt takes the Old West and flips the lantern switch with this wonderfully moody BrickSlopes layout, shown during the convention’s “lights out” event. There’s something extra magical about a LEGO train scene when the room goes dark and the buildings start glowing like tiny frontier campfires.

The desert setting is already doing plenty of work here, with that classic dusty railroad-town energy, but the lighting gives it the real yee-haw factor. Windows glow, silhouettes sharpen, and the train becomes less of a display piece and more of a midnight arrival with a suspiciously dramatic soundtrack. I’m also a sucker for historical layouts that feel lived-in rather than staged, and evancelt’s love for period builds really comes through.
It’s a reminder that sometimes the best “part usage” isn’t a part at all — it’s atmosphere. Turn down the lights, let the bricks breathe, and suddenly the whole frontier starts telling ghost stories.
