Some party guests wait politely for the speeches to finish. DOGOD Brick Design’s hippo has chosen the more efficient route: swallow the entire 10th-anniversary cake in one magnificent gulp. Built for the LEGO House anniversary contest on LEGO Ideas, The Cake Crashers turns a formal celebration into a perfectly timed plastic punchline.
The character work is delicious. The carefully tailored suit gives this hungry hippo a wonderfully proper silhouette, which only makes his gloriously undignified behavior funnier. Getting formalwear to sit convincingly on a round animal body is no small feat, and those tidy lines make the cake-snatching chaos land even harder.
Then there’s the crocodile, apparently shocked by this outrageous breach of party etiquette. Look closer, though, and the fork in his hand tells the real story: he isn’t defending the cake. He’s furious he missed dessert. That tiny prop flips the whole scene and rewards a second look—the brick-built equivalent of a comedy beat landing twice.
