Holy Ship! Dante Takes a Cruise

·

Most crusaders head east on horseback. Dante? He books passage west and brings the church along. Mr_Minotaurus’s Dantes Inferno takes Shiptember into delightfully strange waters with a microscale LEGO vessel and a captain who has apparently found a loophole in his marching orders.

Holy Ship! Dante Takes a Cruise

The builder’s German backstory casts Dante as the craftiest crusader of the lot, trading a crusade for a cruise across the great pond. His mission: spread faith and “civilization,” retrieve the Church’s lost holy treasures, and presumably avoid answering awkward questions about the travel budget. Subtle fellow.

There’s a lovely linguistic gag aboard, too: Kirchenschiff means a church’s nave, but literally reads as “church ship.” That’s quite a brief to hand your brick collection.

Mr_Minotaurus describes himself as primarily a Space AFOL, but says that when something needs building, it gets built. A seagoing ecclesiastical adventure certainly qualifies. I’m filing this one under “unexpected Shiptember itineraries.” All aboard, and mind the collection plate.
