It was a good day for chrome

SergioBatista’s gorgeous green 1964 Impala lowrider cruises in with so much attitude you can practically hear the bassline before the wheels hit the pavement. The Flickr title nods to War’s “Low Rider,” but the inspiration is straight out of Ice Cube’s “Today Was a Good Day” video, and the result is a Speed Champions-scale slab of West Coast cool.

The headline trick here is the working “hydraulics” suspension. This thing is fully poseable, letting the Impala sit low, pop a corner, or roll with that classic show-car lean. At this scale, getting stance right is half the battle, and Sergio absolutely nails the long, low proportions of the Chevy. The body feels like a proper green boat, with just enough length and squared-off shaping to sell the era without getting chunky.

Then there’s the shine. Chrome parts from Chrome Block City do a lot of heavy lifting, especially around the bumpers and trim, giving the build that polished boulevard-cruiser sparkle. The custom 3D-printed rims and hand-painted whitewall LEGO tires are bold choices, but they fit the subject perfectly. Sometimes purism can ride in the back seat.

I also love the little extra touches: the hand-painted bandana on the minifigure, the alternative closed roof, and the fact that despite all the posing wizardry, the car still rolls. That last bit is the kind of builder flex I appreciate. Display model? Sure. Functional toy? Also yes.

Sérgio Batista, based in Lisbon, has a wide-ranging Flickr stream full of trains, monuments, dark builds, and horror themes, but this Impala proves he can bring the sunshine too. Chrome, hydraulics, hip-hop references, and a brick-built Chevy with swagger? Yep. Today was definitely a good day.
