Some Star Wars scenes ask for a fleet of Star Destroyers. Ren mmao goes smaller, stranger, and much funnier: one stormtrooper sharing a high-contrast back alley with Jar Jar Binks, which is already a sentence I am delighted to have typed. The black-and-white treatment does the heavy lifting, but the staging is the real joke: that bucket helmet turned toward the Gungan like this is a very serious Imperial investigation into whatever suspicious round thing is on the floor.
I like how little Ren needs to sell the world. A rough strip of texture becomes a filthy street, the blurred background suggests a whole grimy set just out of focus, and the minifig posing keeps both characters readable even when the shadows get crunchy. Jar Jar’s long head and floppy ears are basically built-in noir silhouettes, and the stormtrooper’s glossy armor catches the light like tiny plastic chrome. Galactic procedural drama, but make it goofy.
