Maximillian Bricks has gone deep into the glorious toybox weeds with Kenner Mini-rigs, and I mean that as the highest compliment. These are LEGO versions of all nine Kenner Star Wars Mini-rigs, plus three Body-rigs, which is exactly the kind of specific Original Trilogy side quest that makes my collector brain light up.

First, the subject choice is fantastic. The Mini-rigs were not canon film vehicles, but they had that very Kenner magic: designed to feel like they belonged just outside the camera frame. That makes them perfect for LEGO, where “plausible background vehicle” is basically a full creative genre.
Second, completing the whole set matters. One Mini-rig would be a fun novelty. All nine, plus the Body-rigs, turns the project into a proper tribute to a strange little branch of Star Wars toy history. There is real affection in that kind of completism.
Third, I love how these vehicles live between official design and pure merchandise energy. They are connected to the world of the films, but not trapped by it, which gives a builder room to interpret shapes, proportions, and details without arguing with screen accuracy every five minutes.
Finally, there is something charming about seeing non-canon 80s plastic translated into modern digital LEGO design. It is nostalgia filtered through nostalgia, which is dangerously nerdy and completely my kind of thing.
