Killjoy Gets His Red Armor Redux

·

Twelve years is a long time to leave a mechanical menace parked in the hangar, but Eero Okkonen has hauled Killjoy back out and given him the full version 4.0 treatment. The result is not just “red robot, but bigger.” This feels like a proper character rebuild: bulky, armored, slightly grumpy, and absolutely ready to stomp across a sci-fi battlefield with glowing blue eyes and rocket boots.

Killjoy Gets His Red Armor Redux

The color work does a lot of heavy lifting here. Eero leans into dark red as the main armor tone, then uses regular red where it counts, keeping the whole suit punchy without turning it into a flat wall of crimson. My favorite little modern-part flex is the curved slope/windscreen piece from the tulip bouquet, which helps shape the helmet and shows up again around the pelvis. Flower parts becoming battle armor? That is the good stuff.

There is still a nice Bionicle heartbeat under all that System shaping. The Kalmah foot returns on the chest, which is a great bit of continuity across Killjoy’s earlier versions, while the feet mix Hero Factory and Slizer energy into something chunky and planted. The giant pauldrons are the real silhouette makers, though: layered, hinged, and dramatic enough to make the whole suit look heavier than its actual brick count.

I also like that the asymmetry is restrained. One lower arm edges toward cannon mode, but the model still reads naturally at first glance. That balance between character design, mechanical detail, and clean posing is classic Eero. He is not just rebuilding an old favorite; he is reinterpreting what made it cool in the first place.
