LEGO has produced over 20 variants of the LEGO Anakin Skywalker minifigure, each tied to specific story moments. Early designs used yellow skin tones and basic printing for tunics and belts. By 2005, flesh-colored heads became standard, with added details like scars, headsets, and double-sided faces for expressions. Variants include the young podracer pilot with tan legs, the Padawan with a braid and brown cape, the Clone Wars armored Jedi with black legs, the Episode III Jedi Knight with a black glove hand, and burnt versions showing lava damage. Accessories typically feature blue lightsabers, though green blades appear in some Clone Wars sets and red in dark side forms. These changes reflect Anakin’s arc from hero to Darth Vader (Editor’s note: spoiler alert!)
Several LEGO sets highlight key Anakin variants through vehicles, battles, and scenes. The 7141 Naboo Fighter (1999) introduced the pilot variant with a light gray helmet and goggles. This 133-piece set includes the starfighter, R2-D2, and a small display stand, allowing builds of the Naboo escape sequence. In 2005, the 7251 Darth Vader Transformation set captured Anakin’s fall. With 422 pieces, it features a Mustafar mining platform, transformation chamber, and the burnt variant with red facial printing and no hair piece. Builders can switch between Jedi and Vader forms. The 75021 Republic Gunship (2014) focuses on the Clone Wars era. This 1,329-piece set recreates the LAAT/i gunship with opening sides, troop deployment ramps, and a redesigned Padawan Anakin with orange eyebrows and green lightsaber. It includes Obi-Wan, clone troopers, and battle droids for multi-figure play. More recently, the 75269 Duel on Mustafar (2020) depicts the Episode III confrontation. The 810-piece set has a lava river base, mining platform, and variants of Anakin (pre-burn) and Obi-Wan, plus a Mustafar droid. It supports dynamic lightsaber duels with detachable platforms. Looking ahead, the 75401 Ahsoka’s Jedi Interceptor (2025) brings back Anakin as a Clone Wars master. This 290-piece set includes Ahsoka, R7-A7 droid, and Anakin minifigure, with a new cockpit mold for high-speed pursuits.
These sets demonstrate LEGO’s approach to storytelling through modular builds and accurate minifig details. Collectors value rare variants like the 2005 light-up lightsaber Anakin from 7257 Ultimate Lightsaber Duel, which uses a glowing hilt but lacks a removable head. The minifigure’s popularity stems from its role in over 20 sets, making it a core piece for prequel displays. Prices for loose figures range from $5 for common reprints to $50 for exclusives like the 2010 cold gear version.
