Next Stop: Bricks and the City

·

New York has two speeds: rushing to catch a train and pretending you’re not rushing to catch a train. DragonBrick’s American subway adds a third: the surprisingly peaceful street sitting above all that underground bustle.

Builder Roman Shemis packs that contrast into a small slice of the city, with passengers going about their business below and a quieter scene overhead. That stacked setting gives the model its storytelling hook: two different rhythms sharing the same little patch of New York. It’s a smart subject for a compact LEGO scene, where the relationship between spaces can do as much work as the details.

And those details deserve their fare. A trash can, an old lamppost, and a rat supply the everyday city atmosphere. No giant landmark required; sometimes the smallest resident does the heavy lifting. I’m particularly fond of that choice. Give me the unglamorous bits that make a place feel lived in. Mind the gap—and watch your snacks.
