In a blast from the past that even Doc Brown would approve of, LEGO has unveiled set 77256: the Time Machine from Back to the Future. Slated for release on January 1, 2026, this 357-piece kit from the Speed Champions series captures the iconic DeLorean DMC-12 in all its plutonium-powered glory. Priced at an accessible $27.99, it’s poised to transport LEGO enthusiasts—young and old—straight back to 1985, blending high-speed building fun with cinematic reverence.
At its core, the set lets builders aged 9 and up recreate the DeLorean’s dual personas from the beloved trilogy. Start with the ground-pounding version from the first film, complete with a lightning rod, California license plate, rear air vents, and that unmistakable flux capacitor glowing in the cockpit. But the real thrill? Transform it into the hover-mode beast from Back to the Future Part II. Swap in Mr. Fusion for nuclear waste, add an orange license plate, and tilt those wheels sideways for flight-ready flair. Every detail screams authenticity: the time calculator dashboard, gull-wing doors, and even the plutonium chamber, all rendered in LEGO’s signature brick precision.
What elevates this beyond a standard Speed Champion racer? The included minifigures: a wild-haired Doc Brown, complete with his radiation suit and hoverboard hints, and Marty McFly in his puffer vest, guitar at the ready. Pop them into the cockpit for endless role-play—racing through Hill Valley or dodging Biff’s goons. It’s not just a build; it’s a portal to adventure, compatible with other Speed Champions sets for epic garage showdowns.
LEGO’s design team didn’t skimp on innovation. The kit’s modular nature encourages experimentation, while the free LEGO Builder app offers 3D zooming and progress tracking for seamless assembly. As one preview notes, this marks a triumphant return for the DeLorean after years away from official shelves, filling a void for fans craving that 88-mph rush.
Whether you’re a kid discovering the franchise or an adult reliving “Great Scott!” moments, set 77256 promises heart-pounding creativity. At under 30 bucks, it’s a steal for 357 pieces of time-travel magic. Mark your calendars—1.21 gigawatts of excitement await in the new year. Who knows? This DeLorean might just make you believe in the power of bricks.
