Shell Yeah, the Band’s All Here

·

Planet Robotica’s The Incredible B.U.G.G. Band sounds like the kind of act you discover on a weird late-night holo-channel and immediately decide is your new favorite. Robots? Snails? Mecha musicians? That is a deeply specific Venn diagram, and Ian has marched right into the overlap with a tiny amplifier and no fear.

What makes this one sing is the character work. A band build can easily become “figures holding instruments,” but these little performers feel designed around their personalities first. The snail angle gives the whole lineup a slow-groove absurdity, while the robot/mech language adds just enough hard edges to keep things from becoming pure cartoon goo. That contrast is the fun bit: shells and sensors, antennae and amps, cute silhouettes with mechanical attitude.

Ian’s builder bio makes this even better. An architectural designer and music freak returning to LEGO characters after a 33-year pause? That explains the mix of structure and soul here. There’s a clear eye for form, but also the joy of someone building the kind of oddball ensemble you can practically hear warming up off-camera.

I’m always a sucker for MOCs that invent their own little universe in one scene, and this bug band has tour-shirt energy.
