Sometimes the build you end up with is better than the one you were chasing. captain_j03 set out with Ford F-100 dreams, hit the dreaded “why won’t this front end behave?” wall, and took a detour into GMC territory instead. The result is this sharp little 1971 Sierra Grande, and honestly, I’m not complaining one bit.

At 7-wide, this dark azure pickup has that lovely in-between heft: chunky enough to feel like a proper workhorse, but still snugly minifig-scaled for Joe’s Garage duty. The squared-off nose does the heavy lifting here, especially with those stacked double headlights that sell the early-’70s GMC face. I’m also a sucker for the clean bed lines and the way the cab sits just right without turning into a brick-shaped shoebox.
It’s a tidy reminder that LEGO problem-solving often works sideways. Can’t crack the Ford? Build the GMC. Park it out front. Call Mike the Mechanic.
