A golden LEGO coin with Bill Gates on it? Now that’s what I call micro-soft currency. Raymonde Contensous shares Golden Gates, a wonderfully cheeky piece from Dirk Denoyelle where the joke isn’t just in the title — it’s baked into every stud.
At first glance, it reads as a simple shiny round tile of wealth. But zoom in and the layers start stacking like a well-sorted parts drawer: “This is not à bill” plays with Magritte, money, language, and of course Bill himself. The portrait turns the idea of “fortune” into a literal face, while the gold palette makes the whole thing feel like a commemorative coin from some alternate Silicon Valley treasury.
I love LEGO art that rewards a second look, and this one practically demands a full-screen inspection. It’s funny, clever, and just a little bit mischievous — exactly the kind of brick-built wordplay that makes contemporary LEGO exhibitions sparkle.
