VTEC After Dark

SergioBatista’s Cyberpunk Honda S2000 looks like it just pulled out of a neon-soaked alley, made one dramatic handbrake turn, and then challenged a flying taxi to a street race. Speed Champions scale is already a tricky little sandbox, but packing this much attitude into a Honda roadster shape? That’s where the fun starts.

The bodywork hits that sweet spot between recognizable S2000 and sci-fi tuner fantasy. The long hood, low stance, and compact cockpit are all there, but Sergio pushes it into cyberpunk territory with aggressive lighting and color contrast. The glow is not just “stick a light behind it and call it a day,” either. According to the builder, this uses a 3-volt battery, a reed switch activated by a magnet, and tiny 3 mm, 3V neon strips. Translation: the car can light up without a visible clunky switch ruining the lines. That is delightfully sneaky.

I’m a sucker for LEGO builds that cross the streams with a little practical electronics, especially when the tech supports the model instead of overwhelming it. Here, the soldering and wiring are doing exactly what they should: adding atmosphere. The underglow gives the whole car that “rainy future city” vibe, like it belongs parked outside a noodle stand while a synth soundtrack does its thing.

Sérgio Batista, based in Lisbon, has a Flickr stream full of trains, monuments, dark builds, and horror-tinged creations, so this cyberpunk street machine feels right at home in his wheelhouse. It’s polished, moody, and just a little dangerous-looking — which is exactly how a neon Honda should be.
