Whale Fall, Brick Rise

·

There’s something beautifully grim about a whale fall: one gigantic life ending, then becoming an entire buffet, shelter, and neighborhood for the strange little creatures of the deep. VelociJACKtor’s Second Life takes that idea and turns it into a Bio-Cup sculpture that feels halfway between marine biology diagram and abyssal nightmare. In the best way, obviously.

Whale Fall, Brick Rise

Built for Round 2 of the 2026 Bio-Cup under the theme of metamorphosis, this model really leans into transformation. The whale is no longer just a whale. It’s a landscape. A carcass becomes a reef. Bone becomes architecture. Decay becomes dinner. LEGO, it turns out, is pretty good at making death look weirdly elegant.

The Bionicle and constraction DNA is doing a lot of heavy lifting here, with curved shells, spines, and creature-y textures layered into something that reads as both organic and sculptural. I especially love how the build avoids looking too clean. The shapes feel eroded and picked over, like the ocean has been quietly editing this beast for years. That’s a tricky balance: too smooth and it’s just a skeleton, too chaotic and it becomes parts soup. VelociJACKtor lands right in the deliciously creepy middle.

The composition also deserves a little chef’s kiss with a diving helmet on. The model suggests scale without spelling everything out, letting the viewer imagine the benthic critters, scavengers, and microbes turning this remnant into a whole ecosystem. It’s less “monster” and more “nature is metal,” which is exactly the sort of biological brick poetry I’m here for.

Bio-Cup builds often thrive on wild anatomy, but Second Life stands out because its concept is as strong as its silhouette. It’s not just a cool creature sculpture. It’s a story about the ocean’s recycling program, told in bones, armor, and abyssal vibes. Circle of life? More like circle of knife-toothed crustaceans.
