When a LEGO Designer Builds a Tachikoma Shrine on Their Day Off

·

There’s something delightful about someone who designs LEGO sets for a living coming home and building wildly creative MOCs just for fun. Pohaturon — a Model Designer at The LEGO Group and longtime Bionicle enthusiast — does exactly that, and this Tachikoma Temple is a perfect example of what happens when professional skill meets personal passion.

Custom LEGO Tachikoma from Ghost in the Shell perched atop a brick-built shrine staircase with miniature trees and a micro Tachikoma at the base

The build mashes up two March building challenges — Marchikoma (Tachikoma-themed builds) and Marchitecture — into one gorgeous little scene. The blue spider-tank from Ghost in the Shell sits proudly atop a shrine staircase, its characteristic dome head and teardrop manipulator arms rendered in bright azure curves and clever SNOT work. The optical sensors pop in red against all that blue. But the real magic is in the setting: a landscaped courtyard with miniature trees flanking a stone pathway, giving the whole thing a serene quality that’s hilariously at odds with a military combat robot.

And if you look closely at the base of the stairs? There’s a tiny chibi Tachikoma hanging out — a micro-scale Easter egg that made me grin. That’s the kind of detail that separates a good builder from a great one.

With over 330 builds on Flickr and credits as a former New Elementary contributor, Pohaturon consistently delivers builds that punch well above their size. This one’s no exception.
