Yo Ho Ho and a Cove Full of Bricks

·

I haven’t seen a pirate build hit me this hard in a while. Peter, The Archer just dropped this absolute gem of a tropical pirate hideout and I’m still zooming in on details I missed the first three times.

Where do I even start? The rockwork framing that little beach cove is ridiculous — dark gray and brown pieces mounted at angles that make you forget you’re looking at LEGO. There’s nothing grid-like about it. The cliff faces have that natural erosion look, with tropical plants stuffed into every crack and crevice. And then you’ve got palm trees, vines, bamboo leaves — the vegetation density here is serious business.

But the water. THE WATER. That layered ocean technique with trans-blue plates underneath and trans-clear studs scattered across the surface for foam? Chef’s kiss. You can practically feel the Caribbean warmth coming off this thing. The way the color graduates from deep blue to shallow clear near the beach is the kind of detail that separates a good MOC from a great one.

Five techniques that make this build sing — tap to zoom in.

And check out that weathered building in the corner — the builder mixed white and tan masonry bricks to create that crumbling stucco look. It’s a small touch but it tells a whole story about how long these pirates have been holed up here. Terra cotta roof, shuttered windows, a lantern by the door. It feels lived in.

Peter mentioned this was his first pirate build since 2021 and gave a shoutout to the BII Discord crew who followed the build. Five years away from pirates and he comes back with this? Yeah, I’d say the hiatus paid off.
